A wedding of unusual local interest was solemnised at Conisbrough Parish Church on Saturday, when Miss Freda Mary Lewis, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. Lewis, of 3, Waverley Terrace, Conisbrough, was married to Mr. James Oswald Dunk, fourth son of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Dunk, of “Bryn Don” Doncaster Road, Conisbrough.
The Vicar of Conisbrough, the Rev. George Needham, officiated at the service which was choral and Mr. E. Dabbs, uncle of the bride, was at the organ. The hymn, “Lead Us, Heavenly Father, Lead Us,” was sung. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a charming gown of white flowered lace over satin with veil and wreath and carried a bouquet of pink tea roses. She was attended by Miss Doreen Peck and Miss Margaret Peck, wearing pink lace with green head-dresses and belts, and Miss Barbara Ann Lewis (sister) and Miss Patricia Dunk (niece of the bridegroom) wearing green lace with pink ribbons and carrying posies of cornflowers and sweet peas. A silver horse shoe was presented to the bride at the church door by her small brother. Best man was Flt.-Lt. John H. Dunk, D.S.O., D.F.C. and the groomsmen were Mr. Roy E. Lewis and Mr. William Dunk
A reception was held at the Lord Conyers Hotel, where the bride’s mother received the guests wearing a clover cloque two-piece with black accessories. The bridegroom’s mother wore brown and white silk with fox fur. The bridegroom’s gifts to the bridesmaids were silver and pearl necklaces and bangles.
The bride and bridegroom were the recipients of cheques from both families and friends and numerous other presents. The couple left later for a honeymoon at Blackpool, the bride travelling in a green linen suit with brown hat and brown accessories. The bride is a Red Cross nursing officer and the bridegroom is serving in the R.A.F.
