Denaby Doctor’s Daughter

At St. Peter’s Church, Vere Street, London, a wedding was solemnised on Saturday of considerable interest to Denaby Main and district. The bride was Miss Margaret McArthur, only daughter of Dr. A. J. McArthur and Mrs. McArthur, of the Red House, Denaby Main, and the bridegroom Captain Dennis H. Bowman, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Bowman, of Amersham, Bucks.
Before the war the bride was engaged with the famous firm of Reville, of Hanover Square, London, and she obtained with exceptional merit a diploma in dress designing. Owing to the war she changed her occupation and joined the staff of the King Edward VII Hospital at Windsor and gained the diploma of the Chartered Society of Massage and Medical Gymnastics and later gained the M.E. The bridegroom is serving with the Royal Dental Corps and he holds the qualifications of L.D.S., R.C.S., Eng. (Guy’s).
The service was conducted by the Vicar of St. Peter’s, the Rev. Earnshaw Smith, and he was assisted by the Vicar of St. John’s, Harrow, the Rev. J. Beck, a friend of the bridegroom’s family. The service was choral, the choir being in attendance, and the hymns sung were, “Praise my soul,” and “O, perfect love” and 121st Psalm. The bride was given away by her brother, Flight Lieut. John McArthur, who is a doctor in the R.A.F. She wore a beautiful gown of white figured lace, over white satin, which had been specially designed for her by a former colleague and the ensemble was completed by a coronet and long flowing veil and she carried a hymn and Prayer Book. She had no attendants. The best man was Flight Lieut. Peter Caddy (friend of the bridegroom).
A reception was held at the Welbeck Hotel and Mrs. McArthur (mother of the bride) received her guests wearing a light grey suit with toning accessories, and Mrs. Bowman (mother of the bridegroom) wore a wine coloured two-piece with accessories to correspond.
