The marriage was solemnised at Mexborough Parish Church on Monday of Leading Seaman Stanley Kirby, only son of the late Mr. and Mrs. E. Kirby, of Denaby Main, and Miss Joan Platt, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. Platt, “Coronella,” Tennyson Avenue, Mexborough.

At the choral service the hymns “O Perfect Love” and “The Voice that Breathed O’er Eden,” and a solo, “Because” were sung.

Given away by her father, the bride wore a gown of white satin beaute with lace yoke, and embroidered veil, and carried red roses, lilies of the valley and fern.

She was attended by Misses Bessie Davy, Kathleen Haller and Janet Huffingley, who wore blue cloque gowns and organdie head-dresses with veils to tone and carried pink carnations, and Barry Blenkiron in a sailor suit.

Mr. Bill Pearson was best man and Mr. Dennis Porter and Mr. Harry Maw were groomsmen.

A reception was held at St. Aidan’s Church, Mexborough. The bride and bridegroom are old students of Mexborough Secondary School, and the latter was a member of Denaby Rover Scouts, from whom they received a gift of a set of carvers, and Denaby Main Tennis Club. The bride works In Denaby Main Post Office
