200 Guests at Conisbrough Double Wedding

In a double wedding at Conisbrough Parish Church on Saturday, Miss Dorothy Dimaline, only daughter of Mr. and the late Mrs. C. J. Dimaline, of 4, Dale View, Upper Station Road, Conisbrough, was married to Mr. Robert Bernard Snodgrass, second son of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Snodgrass, of 11, Peake Avenue, Conisbrough, and Mr. Snodgrass’s sister, Miss Frances Snodgrass, the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Snodgrass, was married to Mr. Joseph Derick Platts, second son of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Platts, 73, Thompson Avenue, Edlington.

The Vicar, the Rev. G. F. Braithwaite, officiated at a choral service, at which Mr. W. Stables was organist. The hymns “Lead us, Heavenly Father,” and “O Perfect Love,” were sung.

Mr. Dimaline gave his daughter away and she was attired in white chiffon velvet, with veil and coronet of orange blossom and was attended by Misses Constance Gomerson and Margaret Snodgrass, in blue figured taffeta and matching headdresses, and Norma Warren, in white organdie over taffeta and a headdress to match. The senior bridesmaids carried yellow tulips and the small attendant violets. The bride carried pink carnations.

Mr. John Harold Snodgrass was best man for his brother and Sgmn. Peter Dimaline was groomsman. The bridegroom’s mother wore a green dress with brown coat and accessories and wore a spray of chrysanthemums.

Miss Snodgrass was given away by her father and wore ivory chiffon velvet, with a veil and coronet of orange blossom. She carried pink carnations and was attended by Misses Mary Brook and Doreen Hughes, in blue figured taffeta and matching headdresses and carrying yellow tulips, and Sandra Platts, in white organdie over taffeta, and carrying violets. The best man was Mr. Benjamin Platts and the groomsman Mr. Douglas Snodgrass. The bridegroom’s mother wore a pink and black checked coat with accessories to match and a spray of pink carnations.

A reception was held at Conisbrough Church Hall, at which 200 guests attended. The wedding cake was a gift to Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Snodgrass, by Mr. Snodgrass’s former employers Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Shikell, of the Red Lion Hotel, Conisbrough, and Mr. and Mrs. Platts’ wedding gifts included an electric iron from the bride’s workmates at Pegler Bros. Ltd., Doncaster.
