Mexborough and Swinton Times June 6.
Wesleyan Sabbath School Anniversary.
On Sunday last beenWhit Sunday two sermons were delivered in the Wesleyan Chapel, Conisborough, by the Rev John Pickup onbehalf of the Sabbath school in connection with that place of worship.
The sacred edifice was well filled both at afternoon and evening service, and the effort throughout was a success.
The children were assisted in their singing by the ordinary choir, strengthened by several members of the church choir, and the singing was well rendered throughout.
Every praise is due to Mr J Kilner Bateson for the efficient manner in which he has trained his numerous choristers. The only instrumental accompaniment was the organ. The united collections amounted to £26 11s 1d.
On Monday the children assembled in a field kindly lent by Mr J Hudson, near the Poplars, and there enjoyed themselves by playing at cricket, football, and other games until teatime, when they repaired to the school room, and did ample justice to the good things provided.
After tea they again betook themselves to the field and there spent a Merry evening.
