Whit Festival

The 37th annual Festival of Conisbrough United Sunday Schools was held in the Castle grounds on Whit Sunday.

The Chairman Was the Reverent C Keogan of the Baptist Church, also gave the address at short notice, owing to the indisposition of the Vicar, the Rev G.F.Braithwaite.

The procession formed on the Welfare ground and moved to the Castle, complete with banners and led by the Parish Church Cross and choir.

After prayers and readings by Rev Keogan and the address the Crowning ceremony took place. Elizabeth Marsh, of the Wesley Church, the retiring Queen, welcome the new Queen; Joy Askey, of the Baptist Church, was crowned by Mrs H Cooke. The new Queen thanked her predecessor for welcome under attended Carol Tom remaining waiting and Graham Unwin crowned bearer.

Carole Tonks presented Mrs H Cooke with a bouquet. A collection realised 12 Guinness for the United Sunday Schools Fund. The conductor was Mr W Stables and the pianist Mrs RE Taylor.
