Mexborough and Swinton Times June 7 1885
Church Sunday School,
Denaby Main.
The annual procession took place on Whit Monday, followed as usual, by a tea for the scholars and a fete in the football field near the railway.
The scholars, numbering about 400, formed in procession at the church, headed by the Denaby Main brass band. They were accompanied by their teachers and friends and paraded the streets with large and small banners, singing hymns periodically.
Thanks to the energetic preparations of some kind helpers, tea was ready in the Rossington Street School room on their return thither; and throughout the evening races were arranged, toys distributed, balloons sent up, and games enjoyed. Races for the teachers and the bandsmen brought the day to a close.
