Whit Walk Plans

In its sixth year Conisbrough’s annual Whit Walk takes on a universal appeal with the introduction of a junior event.

Now father, son and grandfather can all test their stamina in the Whit Monday Walk, sponsored by its founder Mr. Gomer Davies, landlord of Conisbrough’s Eagle and Child Hotel.

The junior walk, open to under 16’s, starts at 1 p.m. on Whit Monday, following the morning’s senior event. A special Under 16 Challenge Cup is to be presented by Mr. Davies.

The senior walk (starting 10 a.m.) is again likely to attract a considerable entry. Last year nearly 40 competitors took part in the five mile event.

The main prize is the Mary Davies Challenge Cup for the outright winner, but there is also the John Smith’s Trophy for the scratch winner, the William Stone’s Veteran’s Cup (Over 45’s) and the Buxton and Regan Women’s Cup.

Further interest in this year’s Whit Walk will be created by a challenge match – part of the senior event – between the R.A.O.B. of Thorne and the Thorne Moorends Social Club.

All prizes will be received at a concert and prize giving at the Eagle and Child, West Street, Conisbrough, on Whit Tuesday.
