Soldier – Whitehouse W. – Wounded

1916

Pvte. W. Whitehouse (9th Essex Reg) is now in Colchester. In a letter to his mother, who lives at West Road, Mexborough, he explains that he has been laid out on March 14th by a rifle grenade accident, which killed 3 men and wounded 12. He himslf was rather badly peppered, principally in the right shoulder and left side. His friend was killed outright and Whitehouse had bandaged him before he realised that he himself was badly hit.
