Whitsuntide at Denaby

On Whit Monday the scholars of the various places of worship were entertained in the usual manner.

The Wesleyans were the first I noticed, and very nicely they looked, and their singing was in accordance with their appearance. Mr S. Roulston was conductor, and he had the assistance of Mr T Wilde on the cello.

The Salvation Army were also out in good time, headed by their band, and a capital display they made, while the little ones were quite jubilant, and their singing was most hearty, and the efforts of those in command were deserving of the highest praise.

The children of the primitive and Salvation Army denomination respectively, finished the day in the football ground lent for the occasion by Mr Weston, and the usual sports, games et cetera were in full swing.

Owing to the kindness of Mr Weston, a large box of oranges was distributed amongst the children present, and the teachers and other officials, thanked Mr Weston for his kindness to their charges.

The children of St Albans were entertained by the reverent F Kavanagh, in the grounds adjoining the church. The children were thoroughly entertained, and bones, oranges and aerated waters were freely distributed during the evening.

The scholars of All Saints had their usual trip by road to Edlington Woods.

The wagons and horses were lent by the following: Messrs The Denaby and Cadeby Colliery Company H.Guest and J.West. The days outing was thoroughly enjoyed, and the journey safely completed.
