Window Breaking at Denaby.
The Denaby and Cadeby Main Colliery Company prosecuted Ellen Cronin, alias Rooney, married woman, of Denaby Main, for having on 8 January last committed wilful damage to Windows property belonging to the company.
Mr W Baddily, Doncaster, appeared for the company.
The case should have been heard at the last court, but at that time the defendant was detained at Wakefield on another charge, and was not able to appear.
The evidence was to the effect that on 8 January the defendant was very drunk in Balby Street, Denaby, and she got into such a state of excitement that she went to 3 separate houses, and broke a number of panes of glass, five in all, each of which were valued at one shillings and sixpence.
Three witnesses were called, and one of these, James Whitehead, who lives at 4 Balby Street, causing great amusement by producing three bricks which he had carried to the court in a handkerchief, and said they were the missiles use by the defendant, who wreaked destruction, and the windows of his dwelling.
The bench consider the case proved, and the woman was fined 30 shillings, including the damages, and the costs, or in default 14 days.
