Wintry Conditions

On Saturday morning the first bus on the Sheffield – Doncaster route, via Conanby, ran into a snow drift on Old Road.

The driver and conducted obtained shovels and shifted four feet of snow, and the few passengers were held up for about an hour. Later, two cars and a lorry became stuck in drifts, and council employees cleared away for them.

All junior football matches in the area were postponed.

Mr Norman Vivian Sinclair, of Holywell Lane, a clerk in the general officees of the Denaby and Cadeby Main Collieries Co, sustained a compound fracture of an ankle when tobogganing in the Pygotts on Saturday evening. Mr Sinclair was conveyed to his home on his toboggan by others of the party and later was taken by car to the Fullerton hospital and detained. Mr Sinclair’s 12 year old son also received cuts and leg bruises.
