Without Gun Licence at Denaby
Henry Goodwin, labourer, Denaby, was summoned for having carried a gun for which he had not a licence at Denaby on 5 October.
Mr J.T.Patton, supervisor for the Inland Revenue, Doncaster, prosecuted. He read a section of the act in which the summons have been taken out, and said that the person carrying a gun without a licence was liable to forfeit £10, unless he was carrying the gun behalf of some of the person who had a licence for it. When asked by a constable to produce a licence, he showed him one taken out in the name of Herbert Rogers, and at the time he led the officer to believe that Herbert Rogers was his name.
Police constable Lancaster proved stopping the defendant with the gun in his possession. The defendant produced a licence in the name of Herbert Rogers, which the officer said he had seen before. The defendant gave him the impression that the licence was his. Nothing was said by the defendant about carrying the gun on behalf of someone else.
The defendant admitted having carried a gun, but said he was taking to Rogers, but owing to being detained by the police he was late and Rogers had walked on, so that he had to follow him.
The Chairman said the defendant would have to pay a penalty of 20 shillings; if he wanted to carry gun a must have a licence.
