Women At Variance
At Doncaster on Saturday Kate Dooney, of Denaby, was summoned by her neighbour, Gladys Robson, 18, Warmsworth Street, Denaby, for assault on October 9th.
Mrs. Robson was represented by Mr. A. Loy, who said that although the assault took place on October 9th there had been trouble the previous Saturday. Mrs. Robson said that defendant threatened to “wipe the floor” with her. She threw bricks, bottles, and shovels at her door, and coal through her bedroom window.
On the Monday when witness left the house defendant slapped her on the face. She denied that she had called defendant’s husband a blackleg.
Complainant’s husband, Tom Robson, said he heard his wife call for him and he saw Mrs. Dooney slap her on the face. Mrs. Dooney said the trouble had arisen during the last three weeks. She had had to complain at the colliery because Mrs. Robson tried to prevent her husband from going to work. Complainant came out of the house and caught hold of her arm, saying her husband wished to see witness because she had complained at the colliery. She never made any attempt to strike complainant.
Mary Hall, 51, Warmsworth Street, said Mrs. Dooney never struck complainant.
The Chairman said they would like to see the parties agree better. Mrs. Dooney would be bound over.
