Denaby Youngster’s Fast Scoring

Denaby made a sorry start in their home game with Firbeck, losing Greenwood in the first over before a run had been scored. Wainwright and Wright were very cautions subsequently. The latter survived two appeals for l.b.w. before being caught behind the wicket. The next man. E. P. Robinson, (picture) the youngster who is benefitting by his practices at Headingley, but he soon lost Wainwright who was bowled by Larke, the former Denaby player. Rain began to fall steadily when Probert joined Robinson, and with 69 runs on the board there was a stoppage for 50 minutes.

On resuming Probert did not stay long and was bowled by Hutchins playing a straight bat and keeping his end up.

Charlie Mountney, the Denaby footballer, left Robinson to complete his century.  Robinson batted just over an hour. He displayed fine wrist work in getting the ball to the boundary.  He had 10 fours and sixes in a faultless 101 not out.  With the total at 189 for 4, the home captain made a sporting declaration, leaving Firbeck 1 hour and 55 minutes in which to obtain the necessary runs.  Rose and Rodgers opened against the batting of Wild and Robinson in the game. The latter proved expensive before being relieved by Mountney who claimed the wicket of Rose in his first over with a score of 37. With the addition of another five runs the game was abandoned.
