Yorkshire Rivers Rise Higher

Some Roads Flooded

River Don

The river earlier today was four feet above normal. The level at Mexborough rose 24 inches in eight hours and the river ferry there had to be abandoned.

The ferry is the most direct link for 200 villagers at Old Denaby with a shopping centre of Mexborough, and the closure of the ferry means they will now have to make a 2 mile detour by road.

The Rotherham to Mexborough main road was flooded at Swinton, and trolleybuses unable to ford the floods were temporarily halted yesterday.
