Young Artist

Out of nearly 150 entrants, a Conisbrough boy has gained second place in a N. E. Regional Art Exhibition at Hull.
He is 18-year-old George Alderson, of 13, Peake Avenue, Conanby
George’s entry, a 24-inch panel intended as a decoration for a new liner, was one of several from the Painting and Decorating Department of Doncaster School of Art, and it has also been shown at a Festival Exhibition in Leeds.
George studied art at Conisbrough Modern School, but has been attending part-time classes at Doncaster for only about six months. At first a shop assistant, and now working in a Doncaster garage, he is being trained in sign-writing and poster-writing, as well as in decorative art.
George has a younger brother, Brian (14), still at the Modern School, who also intends studying art.
