Youth Council.
It was reported at Tuesday’s meeting of the Youth Council that a number of Conisbrough and Denaby boys had gone to Mexborough to join the Army Cadet Corps.
The meeting discussed Mr. Proctor’s report on the progress of the Conisbrough Air Training Corps. Mr. Proctor said he felt much happier about the movement now. Most of the boys had their uniforms. There were 63 on roll and average attendance was 36.
Mr. Proctor emphasised that he was not only concerned with the physical side of the training, and had made arrangements whereby the cadets could attend evening school courses free of charge, in mathematics, navigation, aero-mechanics, P.T. and squad drill, which would mean that altogether six hours each week would be devoted to instruction.
Coun. D. Sheldon, Commandant of the Messenger Corps, said that some of the Messengers were joining the A.T.C.
Mr. Proctor said he was not aware of this, and would in future ask candidates if they were in any other organisation. He did not think there was any reason why boys should not belong to more than one organisation because in the case of blitz conditions the A.T.C. would have no function, and the boys would still be able to carry out their duties as messengers. He had one cadet who was also a member of the Home Guard and who never missed a parade.
