Youthful Offenders at Conisboro’.

Sarah Brammer, Henry Brammer and John O’Brien, schoolboys of Conisbrough were charged with larceny from a lock-up shop at Conisboro’ on the 14th of March.

Annie Farmer said she was the daughter of George Edward Farmer, of New Conisborough who had a lock-up shop at that place. Witness looked after the shop in which tobacco and toys were sold. On Saturday night the 12th of the present month, she locked up the shop between 11 and 12. It was all right then. She next went at 8 o’clock on Monday morning and then found that a pane of glass had been knocked out of a back window. She missed some tobacco, balls, cigars, cigarettes and some sweets, the value of the lot being 7s. 6d.

She gave information to the police. She identified articles produced as the stolen property. Prisoners had no right go to the shop at all.

Defendants pleaded guilty.

The two Brammers were ordered to receive six strokes each with the birch-rod and O’Brien four strokes.
