Mexborough, Swinton Times, February 24.
Disgraceful Proceedings in Conisborough Churchyard.
Mark Barker, Collier, of Mexborough, was summoned for having done wilful damage in the Conisborough churchyard.
The defendant did not appear, and police Constable Guylee spoke to serving the summons upon him.
The superintendent said application will be made for a warrant to be issued for the apprehension of the man.
Mr Verity (who appeared for the Vicar and church wardens, of Conisborough), stated that the police knew of another man who was likewise guilty of the offence complained of, and he should propose that a copy of the summons should be served at the man’s last place of abode.
He should further asked for issue of a warrant against both of the men. Altogether there were four men concerned in the affair, but only two of them had been identified.
He might mention that the committal of damage in the village churchyard had been a frequent cause of complaint.
The magistrates consented to the issue of the warrants
