The funeral of Mr. Edwin Whitehouse (71), of Drakehead Lane, the old-time Mexborough footballer whose death on Wednesday of last week was reported in our last issue, was conducted on Sunday.
Mr. Whitehouse who was known to many former football fans as “Stump” Whitehouse, a left full-back of distinction and a cricketer of considerable prowess, died at the home of his son. Mr. Edward Whitehouse, with whom he had resided since the death of his wife five years ago.
Mr. Whitehouse, who leaves two sons and two daughters (one of the sons who served in the last war, being in Canada), was at one time steward of the Denaby Main Institute and old members of the Institute, Messrs. W. Barnett, J. Straw, J. Hughes and R. Peters were the bearers. A service in Denaby Parish Church preceded the interment at Conisborough Cemetery.
The Vicar of Denaby the Rev. S. Powley officiated, and representing the Institute were Messrs W. Astbury, G. Constantine, A. Waters, and D. Booth and representing the old age pensioners Messrs. H. Wood, J. Mellor and J. Hewitson.
The Family mourners were Mr. and Mrs. E. Whitehouse, Mr. and Mrs. J. Johnson. Mr. and Mrs. H. Hirst, Miss. H. Johnson. Messrs J. and A. Whitehouse, Mr and Mrs. J. Whitehouse. Mr. E. Whitehouse. Mr and Mrs. B. Kelly and Mrs. Curtis.

The funeral Arrangements were carried out by Messrs. Greathead Bros. Ltd., Park Road, Conisborough
