The First National Coal Miner’s strike took place in March 1912, after a national ballot at all the collieries
750,000 miners Nationwide downed tools and Local firms had to follow with closures
Rumours of miners working at Cadeby caused men from other areas to arrive, and 8,000 to riot in ugly rushes from the Denaby Main Hotel to Cadeby Main
Police re acted with baton charges
The Courts hear cases including the Lock keeper and his “deceased friend” and the usual refusing to quit, pit pony offences, begging and fights

The Great strike ended on Easter Tuesday in April 1912 and three days later the Titanic hit an iceberg with 1,500 lives lost, and a week later nearby Barnsley won the English Cup at Bramall Lane !
