There are many candidates for the position of Checkweighman and a protest after a narrow victory
George Formby has his Ukulele in his hand at the Empire
and we see adverts for winter remedies and clothes at Bon Marche
There’s a happy financial condition for the Council and Conisborough C.C.
and United have a snow fight against Grimsby Town and transfer their full back to Manchester City

March

In March 1936, Conisborough Council are sued for Wrongful Imprisonment after a woman is taken to Hull jail for non payment of rates
And there’s a Slum Clearance enquiry when 100 houses, some built in 1736, are put up for demolition
The Denaby Main Collieries publish their annual report and announce their profits and dividend
The Church prospers despite the hard times of the day and the Education Committee reject a report of Malnutrition in the district
There’s a win for the Ambulance Team and a protest by the Roman Catholics
Denaby United have a busy month, winning the Sheffield Senior Cup, conceding 8 goals at Bradford City
and selling another player, Guest, to a League Club, West Ham United!

In April 1936 another miner dies at Cadeby pit after a fall of stone from a ‘ good roof.’
A local councillor dies suddenly and elections are held and new councillors and chairman are elected
A clever young Denaby musician gets to play at the Doncaster Gaumont
while the big local event is by the Conisbrough Music Society who presented “King Olaf” to acclaim
The Labour MP addresses the local party and provides an analysis of the present crisis
A local company gets fined for unfenced machinery and the death of a boy
and a man gets a prison sentence for stealing coal

In June 1936 the old Chimney at Denaby Main was being demolished – brick by brick
there was another fatal Accident at Cadeby Main after a seven foot piece of Coal causes a miner to fracture his skull.

There were two more Miners killed in August 1936 both with severe head injuries
which prompted the jury to recommend Safety Helmets
Two well known Catholics pass away including a 96 year old, who was present at the Knock miracle
The schools have undertaken a big reconstructon with the Senior School now accommodating 1,000 pupils

In September 1936 the Conisborough Senior school was extended to enable 1,000 students, including those from neighbouring Denaby
– the birth of Northcliffe and the De Warenne Acadamy
A brave Denaby girl rescues two bathers from the sea at St Annes
Two fatal accidents happened within a short distance and time from each other, on the busy Doncaster – Rotherham Road – near the ‘Star Hotel’ and the coroner expresses concern that the Road is to become de restricted
There’s a suggested march against the ‘Means test’ and support by the council for a Jarrow March
The ongoing dispute over the old Roman footpath from Conanby to Old Denaby is also supported by them
