Alleged Indecent Assault by a Certifed Colliery Manager at Denaby.
At the Rotherham Police Court yesterday, Tom Dormond, assistant ventilator at the Denaby Main Colliery, and who holds a certificate as certified colliery manager, was charged with indecently assaulting Hannah Crump, 14 years of age, daughter of a foreman Joiner at the Denaby May Colliery, on the evening of the 17th inst.
Mr F Parker Rhodes, who prosecuted, said he had to apply for a remand. He wished to secure the attendance of a medical witness, who had examine the prosecutrix, and would prove that an assault have been committed. Other witnesses would prove that the prisoner committed the assault.
Police Constable Kendall was called to give formal evidence. He said the prisoner, on been apprehended, said the prosecutrix came to his house on the night name to receive instructions from his wife upon the pianoforte. During his wife’s absence he acted improperly towards the prosecutrix.
The prisoner was remanded until Monday. Mr Jubb refused to grant bail.
