Cadeby Main Colliery Disaster Fund

2012

The disaster left 63 widows and 132 children fatherless.
A relief fund was quickly established and over 300 contributors raised a total of £9,000.

From the fund an amount of 5 shillings (25p) weekly was paid to each widow and 1 shilling weekly for each child until they reached 14 years.

The trustees of the fund were local notables such as the Earl of Yarborough and Viscount Halifax amongst others and the fund was administered by the local clergy, colliery management and local professsionals
