Testimonial & Presentation

On it becoming known that. Mr G.B. Stones, was been employed as assistant under manager at the Cadeby Main Colliery, was about to leave this district take up an important position as manager of a colliery, near Manchester, the question of getting up a testimonial was eagerly taken up by his Cadeby friends. A meeting was convened at the Denaby Main Hotel, a strong committee was chosen, with Mr T.W. Moseby as treasurer, and Mr D.Graham as secretary.

The committee were exceedingly hard, with the result that something like £36 has being collected.

On Saturday evening a further meeting was held, the object of the meeting been to finally decide what form the presentation shall take. There was a good number present, and it was decided that the presentation should should consist of a gold watch and guard, timepiece, and box of instruments.

It was further decided that this ceremony should take place on Saturday evening, October 26 at the Denaby Main H, when the proceedings will be faced by a good substantial dinner. The presentation will be made by Mr W.H.Chambers.

Postal Arrangements

The inhabitants of that part of Conisbrough, known as Park Road, Lime Grove, and Mount Pleasant, or going in for better postal arrangements. A petition is being got up, and I believe every householder in these districts has signed the same. This petition asked for an afternoon delivery during weekdays, and the morning delivery on Sundays, as in force in other parts of Conisbrough. This petition will be forwarded to the postal authorities at Rotherham.

The question is – how much “red tape” will have to be caught away before the matter is intended to.
