Denaby Colliery Official – Happy Gathering

There was a happy gathering at the Denaby Main Institute, on Saturday evening, when Mr Joseph Soar, a draughtsman at the Denaby and Cadeby colliery, was presented with an eight day chiming clock, and a wallet containing Treasury notes, as a token of respect from the companies officials and workmen. Mr Soar has for many years been in the employ of the colliery and he has retired on account of ill health, and will shortly take up his residence at Lincoln.

The presentation was made by Mr R. Williamson (chief engineer) and there was a fairly large attendance. Mr E.T. Hardy (assistant engineer) presided.

Mr Hardy said he had only known Mr Soar for 18 months, but in that time yet found him not only a very conscientious official, but a good friend. He hoped he would have much better health. Mr Williamson, in making the presentation, said he had known Mr Soar for over 22 years. During that time both he and Mr Soar had witnessed many changes in the mechanical and electrical department of the colliery. He had always found. Mr Soar a good servant and a most loyal friend. He had been most attentive in the interests of his employers and fellow workmen. He wished him much happiness and better health. He would always be made welcome if he ever returned to Denaby. Mr Soarsaid he greatly appreciated account word said about him, and the clockwould bring back many happy memories of the time spent at Denaby during the last 30 years. We could say that yet spent this a most delightful time. While he had been in Denaby, and better friends he never met. They had worked very harmoniously together. He wished to thank the chief engineer, Mr Williamson, for his help and kindness in times of doubt in difficulty. He extended his heartfelt thanks for the beautiful present. Mr W.Asbury, Mr A.Robinson, Mr E. Trout, Mr J.Ingledow, Mr G.H.Milnes(Underground official), Mr S.R.Johnson, Mr R.Lapridge, and Mr J Wall also paid a high tribute to Mrs Soar and wished him every success and better health.
