The Denaby and cricket clubs August “week” opened on Monday with a visit from Mexborough. The match arouse a good deal of interest, and attracted a fair “gate.” Mexborough were assisted by T.Hakin of Wath, but were weakened by the absence of various players.

In the circumstances Mexborough made a good very good show, and were only beaten by a wicket. Hakin did excellent service, scoring 50, and taking three wickets for 43. Percy Beaumont was the most successful of the Mexborough bowlers, with four for 46. G.L.Robinson, of Denaby, had 5 for 38, Wilson 3 for 45 and Widdowson 2 for 44. Worthington and Narroway were the most conspicuous of the Denaby batsmen

Denaby and Cadeby 135 for 6 Mansfield Colliery 230

A. Narroway 32 J Chester 61, J White 46*; H Smith 6-53

This match produced some sound, but dull batting, and lasted from noon until seven o´clock, ending in an open draw.

Mansfield who are leaders of the Bassetlaw league brought a strong site, and taking first knock scored 230, thanks mainly to solid batted by J. Chester (61), H. McCall (34) and the Mansfield captain, J.White (46 not out). The Denaby Capt, H.W.Smith, was the most successful bowler, with six for 53, Arthur Robinson taking four for 64. The clubs played 12 aside.

Denaby were left two hours and a half in which to get the runs and stolidly batted time out. Narroway, the top scored with 32, was at the wicket and hour and a half, and was twice missed before being smartly taken at the wicket. The Mansfield bowlers were very steady and accurate, butthey weretreated with exaggerated respect, except one bright interlude supplied by Widdowson .
