Denaby I.C.I Girls as Chocolate Workers

The ICI Westfalite factory at Denaby closes today (Friday) and after a gradual rundown of staff about 100 women and 24 men will be redundant.

But a couple of firms; the Double Two Shirt Company, of Wakefield, and Terry’s, the chocolate manufacturers, of York, have shown interest in the potential labour force, which the closure will create.

Terry’s whose representative will be coming to this area next week to examine the position, are prepared to take a couple of coach loads of workers to their factory daily.

So far no firm has shown an interest in taking over the factory premises at Denaby.

“At the present moment York seems a better prospect, the work is ideal,” said the manager of Mexborough employment exchange Mr RG Moorman.
