1882

28 th July

School closed for three weeks for mid summer holidays.

18 th September

School closed all day because the lessons would be so much disturbed by the number of special trains passing for Doncaster Races.

14 th /15 th September

No school. The children would not come on account of their fathers having a holiday for the races.

1 st December

Attendance reduced by the unsettled state of the weather.

8 th December

Many of the children were unable to attend school the last three days there having been a very heavy fall of snow.

15 th December

Average attendance still lower from the severe weather.

1883

March

Military drill is being taught to the children.

1884

School staff: Ada Holdsworth, certified teacher, Ada Roberts, assistant mistress

Florence Peace, pupil teacher, second year

1885

School staff: Ada Holdsworth, resigned, Annie Rose, 2 nd class certificate commenced duties

28 th September

Edith H Rose appointed monitress

A urinal should be provided for the boys and indecent habits in the playground put a stop to!

School staff: Annie Rose, certified teacher Emily Wragg, assistant mistress, Miss May Asquith, commenced

8 th October 1886

The dull weather during the present week has made the appearance of the school unusually dark and gloomy. The teachers had difficulty retaining attention of the children on this account.

1887

January

Average attendance 172.9

22 nd April

Albert Webster severely punished for disobedience today.

17 th June

Closed school for one weeks holiday to celebrate Her Majesties Jubilee.

1888

13 th January

About eighteen families have left Denaby.

Emily Cocking, John Marsh & John Cooper were among the best and left this week.

Best in class:

Alfred Williams, Frank Stubbs, George Williams, John Humphries,

Joseph Aston, Rose Durham and Florence Nixon.

From the second class:

John T Toole, Richard Meigh, John W Scott, Ezekial Lloyd, James Cooper, Edith Horubin, Maria Nichols, Lucy Parkes, Lucy Evans.

Elizabeth & Clara Haywood left this week.

Miss Wragg resigned

Miss Washington is new.

Willie Humphries Standard I was drowned in the canal while attempting to fish on Saturday 6 th .
