Issued with the official team sheet of the Dover United F.C. on Boxing Day, reads:

“our renowned outside right, William Henry Humphreys, was born at Denaby, Yorks and is 29 years of age, 5´4” in height; and weighs 10 ½ stone.

He played football for Denaby United, competing in the Midland League. He came to Dover in 1913, and is employed at Tilmanstone, and played for Eythorne in season 1913/14.

During the war he served in the 222ndBrigade R.F.A. and played for the regimental team on being demobilised.

He returned to the Eythorne club until October this year when he transferred to Dover United, as living in Dover, his interest naturally turn to the local Club.

He is a loyal player, and a great favourite with the team as well as a supporters, and you can hear “Manny” as he is called, often applauded for good work in our right wing.

A month ago. He received an invitation from Sheppey United, which he declined, preferring to remain loyal to his home team. Of such stuff is our team made.”
