Mines Certificate

Mr Gilbert Moore, only son of Mr and Mrs Charles Moore, 24 Prior road, Conisbrough, has gained his first-class mines managers certificate at the age of 25 following a recent examination at Doncaster.

Mr Moore, who passed from Morley Place school on a West Riding County Minor scholarship to Mexborough secondary school and later obtained a scholarship to Sheffield University from Mexborough technical school, obtaining the mining diploma at the University.

He then returned to his employment at Denaby Main Colliery, where he has been working while he was attending the Technical School.

Mr Moore, who visited Germany during his university education to inspect mining conditions there was a member of the OTC at the University and was thus offered a commission in the Royal Engineers, but as he is in a reserved occupation was obliged to relinquish the offer.

He has, however, joined the home guard at Denaby.
