Hockey – Conisborough 8 Pitsmoor 1 – Great Start

July 1923

Hockey.

Conisbrough´s Great Start.

Conisborough Victoria (Men) 8 Pitsmoor (Men) 1

Although it was only possible to field a scratch team, Conisborough made an auspicious opening to the season. Missing from the ranks were F. Clarkson, the new captain, who was on holiday, H. Shelbourne, who is this season playing for Doncaster and the former captain, J.I.Webster, who will not be able to play very often this season.

The left back G.Soar, came straight from the train, all returning from his holidays arriving a quarter of an hour late, and played in his “civvies”

this year the club will again have the services of E Wainwright and F Clarkson, who last year were attending a course at Sheffield University.

There is not much to be said about the game, as the home team had most of the play, and won easily, B.B.Clarkson scoring 5 goals and R. Soar the other 3.

Goole Old Girls 4 Conisborough Victoria (Ladies) 3

Played at Goole. A good game resulted in a win for the home team. For Conisborough, Miss E. Rawding did the “hat-trick.”
