They Give Up Too Quickly.

Ilkeston Town 6 Denaby United 0

Denaby have lost a few matches this season, but Saturday’s Midland League defeat at Ilkeston was the first they lost by playing badly. Only after half-time, and, presumably a much-needed talk by Harry Hough, did they brighten up, only to drop back into the shambles of the first-half again after being a goal disallowed.

Enthusiasm fades too quickly in Denaby´s play. Two goals down at half-time they came back at Ilkeston and were on top of the interval. Then a Gray shot hit Rawson’s hand – in the penalty area. Incidentally – and bounced to Ainscough, who, played onside by the ball hitting the centre half, drove the ball past Statham.

The referee gave the goal, but the linesman – on the side away from Rawson’s writer which the ball/, and possibly on-site – gave Ainscough offside and the goal was not allowed.

Just as they did the Saturday before after drawing level with Goole and then going to go pieces after Wharham shot hit the bar, they seem to stop trying after that disallowed goal on Saturday.

Defence Overworked.

The forwards have got to do more work and move the ball instead of standing waiting. Give the defence a chance and then you might get some.
