Night School Calls hit Denaby Training.
With Denaby United just one place away from the bottom of the Midland League, their player manager Harry Hough, this week called for more thought in his team´s play.
“They put a lot of work into the game, but no thought,” said Harry. “If we could direct the effort in the right direction I think we might get somewhere.”
But Harry’s big problem at the moment is getting the players together to work out some tactics.
“The other Tuesday night there were only four first-team players who turned up for training.” he said. “We only have a young team and some of them still have to go to night school. Others are on on shift work, which means that they cannot get down to train.”
Harry added, “it doesn’t give you any chance at all. At one time read about 15 players turned a regular for training and we could work out a policy – but we cannot do it now.”
“We were working out plans for about a fortnight at the beginning of last season – and we got 16 goals in three games, 8 in one match against Gainsborough.”
This year, Denaby have scored only eight goals in 10 games.
“I had thought of moving some of the players around, putting defenders into the attack to see how things worked out, but I think it is a question of playing the lads into position, and leaving it at that,” said Harry
