Not Only at Old Schools.
It has been open for three years – the Mexborough area’s newest school – but Conisbrough´s Ivanhoe Primary school has run into snags with its toilet facilities.
For 180 boys there are six toilets and for 120 girls, four – all of the flush type – and the numbers at the school are expected to increase by about 60 or 70 next year.
Since its opening, two extra classrooms have been added to the school without any corresponding increase in toilet facilities.
The headmaster, Mr G.C.Sadler, who reported the matter to Conisbrough Primary School managers last week, said this week, “The main fault here is that there are no boys urinals. All we have are flush toilets, and they are not adequate for wood 50 boys to use decently, although we try to insist on them using them correctly.”
There is also no proper ventilation in the toilets.
“The smell is unpleasant, and cannot be avoided.”, Said Mr Sadler, who explained that the ventilation was in the roof and had to be closed during the cold or wet weather.
Waste spipes had been wrongly situated in the toilets and splashed water onto the floor before they had been put right.
Mr Sadler added: “the local education office have done what they can, and I believe that this situation is due to be dealt with in the near future.”
The Primary Schools, Managers have referred the matter to the Divisional Education Executive.
A representative of the County Architects Department said this week, “Toilet provisions laid down by Ministry statue,” and added that the two extra classrooms which have been added might be responsible for putting things off balance.
