Old Folks Coronation Treat 1910 (picture)

February 1939

Mexborough & Swinton Times, February 3.

Here is a photograph (loaned to us by Mrs Sheldrake, of 7 Tickhill Square, Denaby Main), which was taking 29 years ago at the Denaby Old Folks Coronation Treat held in conjunction with the celebrations at the Coronation of King George V. In 1910.

Very few, if any of these people in the group remain with us today, but the picture will revive memories for many of our readers.

The group includes several well-known people of that period, and many who have given good service to the village through various organisations. The picture was taken in the girls playground in the present Rossington Street School, and the parish church is seen in the background

I remember Martha Sheldrake who was a next door neighbour, and her family who were key personalities at the parish church,

Martha Sheldrake was my grandmother’s sister, Edith Harrop, nee Peters. Do you know if Martha is in this photo? I don’t have any photos of Martha and Emanuelle (Manny) or my grandmother Edith.
