Mexborough Times 16th January The outbreak of Smallpox at Denaby

A meeting of the sanitary committee of the Mexborough local board washeld last night, Mr C Scorer in the chair.

The medical officer reported that a case of smallpox had occurred at Denaby Main.

The committee were of opinion that precautionary measures should be at once taken, and notices were ordered to be printed and posted in the parish.

It is feared, under the existing circumstances, and unless great caution is exercised, that the disease will spread.

The patient has been effectively isolated, the medical authorities having taken prompt action to prevent infection from making headway.

n.b. Later 5 cases were reported but no deaths from the disease
