Denaby Street Explosion
Small pieces of jagged metal, which were hurled as far as 50 yards, narrowly missed pedestrians when the heavy top of power line standard, supplying the Mexborough and Swinton Traction Company’s trolley service, burst into flames and exploded in Strafforth Terrace, Doncaster Road, Denaby, to-day.
All the telephone subscribers in Denaby Main had their-lines put out of order for some hours until , repairs could be effected.
Mr. H. Gibson, junior, Messrs. H. Gibson, newsagents; Denaby, whose premises adjoin the power standard, told “The Star ’’ that the standard burst into blue flames and exploded with noise for all the world like a rocket when it leaves the ground.”
A large crowd gathered immediately after the explosion and linesmen from the G.P.O. and the .trackless bus company were soon on the scene. The bus service was not interrupted.
