Royal Visit
Conisborough on Monday had its second Royal “visit” within 10 months – but, as on the first occasion it was but a fleeting glimpse that local folk had of their visit.
This time we welcome the Duke of Kent, who passed through the urban district on his way from Doncaster to Mexborough for a halt during his three days tour of unemployed centres in Yorkshire.
Informal as was Queen Mary´s ride through the township last September, this week’s affair was much more informal.
There were this time no schoolchildren lined up by the roadside to raise loyal cheers and very few flags on view, and occasional houses hung out its bunting, the flagpole in the Coronation Park was graced by the Union Jack and the Council Offices and the officers of the Amalgamated Denaby Collieries Ltd, were simply decorated, but that was all.
