Mexborough and Swinton Times, September 3.

Sad Bathing Fatality at Conisborough.

On Wednesday evening, a youth named George Wilcox (son of the late William Wilcox, of Conisborough glassworks), was drowned while bathing in the sandbank below the works.

It is supposed that the deceased was seized with cramp. The body was recovered about half an hour after the occurrence by a boat man.

An inquest will be held.

The greatest excitement prevailed in the district, when it was known that such an unfortunate accident had occurred, which it is hoped, will act as a warning to all bathers not go out of their depth
