Doncaster Officer Killed, formerly of Conisbrough
Lieutenant S.O.Sharp (York and Lancaster)
Lieutenant S.O.Sharp, who was killed in action in France on July 1, was the oldest son of Mr H.J .Sharp, of Kenilworth, Avenue road, Doncaster.
He was educated at Retford grammar school and Pembroke College, Cambridge, taking his B.A .degree in June 1912.
He was 26 years of age.
On the outbreak of war he joined a local battalion as a private, and obtained a commission in November 1940, being gazetted second lieutenant in the York and Lancaster Regiment, getting his second start in June 1950.
He was articled to Mr J.H.Cockburnof Messrs Parker Rhodes and Co, solicitors, Rotherham. He was a keen sportsman, playing cricket, football and hockey with rare ability, being a regular playing member of the Rotherham town Cricket club.
