Temperance and Evangelistic services.

A temperance meeting was held on Tuesday evening week, when an interesting address was given by the reverent W Smith, of Alnwick in connection with the church Temperance Society. Mrs Horton sang an excellent piece, and several children also sung and recited temperance selection.

Mrs Ward and Miss Duncan assisted in a musical program, and the reverent, J.G.Wood presided.

At the Board Schools, Evangelistic services had been held each evening this week, and will terminate on Sunday night. Good congregations have attended to her earnest, simple and possible addresses given by Mr Henry Lakin , of the London Evangelisation Society.

Sankey’s hymns are heartily sung, and a sterling prayer meeting is held after the address.

Mr Lakin is able, both by exhortation and exam to invite his heroes to leave all and follow Christ, as he himself admits some sacrifice in order to do this.

The lecturer is a guest of Mr A. Simpson of. Rock House Conisbrough
