To take Ponies to Winsor Great Park
Mr R.H.Lapidge, Head horsekeeper of the Denaby and Cadeby collieries, has been appointed horse keeper in charge of the 10 pit ponies thatare to be sent to the Royal Show to be held in Windsor Great Park commencing next week.
This is the first National Pit Pony Show, and was arranged as a suggestion made by the Duke of Kent.
It is estimated that there will be about 100 pit ponies and colliery horses from eight coalfields at the show, and these will include many veterans from the colliery working.
10 ponies are to be sent from the South Yorkshire Coalfields and Mr Lapidge will assume responsibilityboth during the journey and at the show.
The Amalgamated Denaby Collieries Ltd are sending two ponies, one from the Cadeby Colliery, “Raby” (aged eight) and one from Dinnington colliery, “Ben” (aged eight) a youth attached to the horse keeping department will accompany each pony.
The journey will begin on Monday next, and the young people who had been fortunate enough to be selected to attendthe show, are naturally proud and excited, and are looking forward to the event.
Many of them have never been to London before.
