Wesleyan Sunday School Anniversary.

On Sunday last two sermons were preached in the ConisboroughWesleyan Chapel, by the Reverent, J.W.C.Gostick, of Doncaster, late missionary in India, in connection with the school there, which now numbers over 200 children, with a good staff of teachers, and a kind, energetic Christian superintendent.

There was a large congregation on each occasion, more particularly in the evening, and the exhortations were very attentively listened to. A selection of hymns and anthems were sung by the children – who shewed having had a good training by Mr J. K Bateson – and the efficient choir.

This collection amounted to the grand sum of £30 15s 0d, which is truly a sign of the deep interest felt in the religious training of the young.

A social tea was provided in the Sunday school on Monday evening, to which about 140 sat down. The trays were presided over by Mrs Kilner, Mrs G Appleyard, Mrs Bateson, Miss Blythe, Miss Watson, Miss Ogley, Miss Smith and Mrs Page

At the public meeting, which followed there was a good attendance, considering that everybody was desirous of enjoying the outdoors amusements of the holiday.

Mr Caleb Kilner, presided, and the other speakers were the reverent, J Pickup, the pastor; the reverent, J.W.C. Gostick of Doncaster; Mr Killingrey and Mr J Stokoe, of Doncaster, their addresses been upon the remarkable progress made in the work of the Sunday schools, and also in the work of secular education.

The scholars sang several hyms and anthems in a creditable manner.

Vote of thanks brought the pleasant proceedings to a close. It was stated that the remainder of the eatables could be partaken of gratis on the following evening.
